'In March 1970, as a direct result of the May 1969 racial riots, I left Malaysia.' Thus begins the story of Lim Ai Lian, a Chinese Malaysian. In Germany she meets and falls in love with Michael Templeton, an Englishman born and brought up in the district of Ulu Banir, where his father, Jonathan Templeton, now a Malay sian citizen, owns a plantation. In late 1973, Ai Lian returns home to be with her sick and dying father. The following February she pays the Templetons a long delayed visit. On the day of her arrival a murder takes place and Ai Lian is soon involved in trying to find the murderer. In the process she finds herself learning about racial prejudice, truth and deception, guilt and innocence, womanhood, love, and the way past silences echo into the present.

Tanushi Singh is an internationally recognized poet, author, and multifaceted professional. The author of five acclaimed poetry books, including Scribbling of My Soul, Pursuit of Sunshine in Rain, Echoes of Silence, and Heart in a Hurricane, her work has earned multiple national and international honors. She has been nominated for the Times Group Women Author Awards, honored with the Sahitya Sammaan Kosh Award, the International Excellence Award, and most recently the prestigious Bharat Vibhushan Award (2025).

Beyond writing, Tanushi is an Army wife, blogger, teacher, and freelance social activist and content writer. Featured in Today magazine’s “50 Under 50” edition and recognized by the Global Women Inspiration Awards as one of the Top 10 Women Artists, Designers & Creatives (2025), she continues to inspire readers worldwide with her words and contributions to literature and society.
