A Race to Finish the Cabin Top Before We Get UV Damage (MJ Sailing - Ep 341)

Описание к видео A Race to Finish the Cabin Top Before We Get UV Damage (MJ Sailing - Ep 341)

We need to cover our fiberglass before it gets RUINED!!

Wow, it feels so different being outside in natural light each day now! With the views of leaves blowing in the wind and a fresh breeze coming through the cockpit and salon, the workdays go by much faster than they used to cooped up inside.

This comes with a price to pay though, because there are certain areas of the boat not yet ready to see sunlight. One of the major ones is the seams of our cabin top. We glassed the three pieces together in the spring of 2023, but haven't done anything to the area since then. And because the fiberglass can get damaged by UV, we now need to make sure they're covered right away.

Thankfully this is a simple enough task to take care of. After a quick sand with 80 grit, Matt applies our TotalFair epoxy fairing compound, and starts a daily routine of sanding and filling to get these seams flush with the rest of the cabin top. We had hoped to get a layer of high build primer on right away as well, but there was a delay on our shipment of that.

Another project getting full attention at this moment is our cockpit doors. We go back in time a little as Matt hangs all three doors and measures out where the windows will be. Using a combination of our track saw, jigsaw, and oscillating tool, he cuts out the shapes for the windows and makes a frame around the edge where our acrylic will eventually be.

As soon as our high build primer comes in, these will get a coating as well, and then we can get them in place to make our catamaran even more secure.

We hope you enjoy!
