Tongue drums were the predecessor to handpans, and they still have unique sustain and tuning characteristics that I enjoy. The Akebono scale is Japanese-based, and each note could be used as the tonic. This makes the instrument easy to play and mysterious, while the healing sustain of the notes feel great in your body. This was the first time I've experimented with this scale, and I'm looking forward to sharing more after I've spent some time with it.
