The last time NATO leaders met, the war in Ukraine and the Gaza conflict showed no signs of stopping. Now, with a fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel barely holding, new uncertainty looms over the alliance’s latest summit in The Hague. Fresh off what he calls a victory in dismantling Iran’s nuclear program, US President Donald Trump hailed NATO’s defence spending boost as a win for the West. But will it be enough to hold the alliance together?

NATO members pledged to raise defence spending to five percent of GDP by 2035, as leaders reaffirmed their ironclad commitment to mutual defence. A key moment at the summit - President Erdoğan’s first meeting with Trump since his re-election. He praised Trump’s role in the Iran-Israel ceasefire, urged urgent action on Gaza, and reiterated Türkiye’s offer to mediate in Ukraine. Erdoğan also met with UK and German leaders, pushing for Türkiye’s full role in Europe's defence plans. But as fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East continue to grow, can the alliance keep its unity intact?
