The Elbow House Design Process

There are always essential considerations when turning ideas into reality. Maintenance, installation costs, and similar factors are crucial for transforming an idea from your mind, from the clouds, into something tangible in the real world.

It's always exciting to think about new materials and how they can facilitate that transition from an idea to reality because we have to meet those real world parameters. For the Elbow House project, we had an idea about a screen, what it's going to achieve, how it's going to define the house and give the house an identity on the street for our clients.

Our clients were able to look into it and they were able to recommend a by NewTechWood Canada as an option that met all of their needs and from both a design aesthetic and practical construction perspective.

In a way the screen frames views. So whenever there's a screen that's not in front of a window, it creates a portal that frames a view line. For instance, a really beautiful example of that is in the primary bedroom space, there's a large window that gives a prominent view through to the Elbow River.

We wanted the material to be airy and belong in the sky - almost like thinking about trees. They're vertical, they're up in the sky, and this Red Cedar product allows it to blend into the natural landscape. Visually speaking, the screen exists in the realm of being ephemeral, having that connection to the sky and the clouds.

L'écran agit comme un cadre, créant des portails qui rehaussent les lignes de vue, un bel exemple est la vue dominante sur la rivière Elbow depuis la chambre principale.

Nous souhaitions un matériau qui semble léger et connecté au ciel, à l'instar des longs arbres qui atteignent des sommets. Le produit en Cèdre Rouge de NewTechWood Canada s'intègre parfaitement au paysage naturel, offrant une connexion éphémère au ciel et aux nuages.
