I had been after this sign for over a decade. I first saw it in 2010 when it was posted on the Rusty Bunch board, and all this time I thought it was a flat tin sign. Much to my surprise, I later found out that it was a corner sign, and was originally nailed to a curved wooden frame. And to add even more surprise to the story, there were TWO of them found.

They were going to bulldoze a local bar in Java, South Dakota in the 1980s. Before they did, two guys found a ladder and went up in a trap door in the ceiling. It was there they spotted these two signs laying face down in the attic. They brought them down and within the week the bar was bulldozed into its foundation. The gentleman who found them bought the other one from his nephew for twenty bucks later that day.

I made a generous offer and struck a deal in the parking lot of a truckstop. I had to keep this a secret for well over a month until my partner Steve drove up to the Twin Cities. Since I had found two of them, I knew how floored he would be to take one home with him that day. Luckily, his buddy,Dakota had the foresight to film this unveiling the day it happened. I never get tired of surprising the guy who is nearly impossible to surprise....It makes me smile every time.
