【Fan-made Short Story】 Pledge to Heaven 上邪 - 《Chen Xing Xu, Peng Xiao Ran 陈星旭, 彭小苒》

This is a short fan-made story I made after being inspired by the sad love story behind the song "Pledge to Heaven". I used the song as the background story while adding some of my own ideas and gave the story a little bit of fantasy elements into it. :) I just used a bunch of clips from Chen Xing Xu and Peng Xiao Ran's different dramas and movies to combine them into one short story. Due to shortage of clips I could only use what was available for me to make this MV so the video might be slightly confusing. Therefore, I recommend reading the summary to have a better understanding of the full story. And for those who are still confused... yes, this is not a real drama :D Only fan-made by me. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy this MV.

Summary: A military general (Chen Xing Xu) and a princess (Peng Xiao Ran) fell in love with each other but due to an on-going war the general was ordered by the Emperor to lead the army into a dangerous battle and could only return after victory. The princess promised to wait for the general to return safely while he vowed to marry her after his successful battle. Time went by but the war still hasn't ended. The princess was given an Imperial decree for a marriage alliance which she had no other choice but to follow.

On her wedding day, the princess decided to escape the marriage. She knew very well that those who disobeyed the Imperial decree would face a death sentence. She was left with no choice but to end her life by drowning herself in the river. During this time, the military general had successfully defeated the enemies and had finally returned to look for the princess but only to find her lifeless body that was rescued by the passersby villagers. Overwhelmed by grief, the general soon fell into depression due to sadness and guilt for not being able to return on time to keep his promise to her. As a result, his health started to deteriorate. Before his death, he had instructed his servants to bury him in a coffin meant for two people and to carve both his and the princess's names on the main burial chamber. This was to show his endless love for her and his hope for them to be together in the afterlife.

Although the princess had passed away but due to her strong willpower and yearning to see her beloved once more made her not able to pass on. Instead, she lingered in the mortal realm waiting and searching for her lover's reincarnation.

100 years later she meets a young man looking very much like her deceased lover. To make sure he's the right person she is looking for, she casts a spell to get a glimpse on his past life. The flashbacks confirmed that this young man was indeed the military general in his past life and she had finally found the person she's been looking for. The princess's time on earth was limited and the only reason why she was still able to linger there as a spirit was due to her unfulfilled wish to meet her lover once again. Before her time runs out she casts a spell to restore her lover's memories of past life. She confronts the young man, who has now gotten back his memories, and tells him the words she had held in her heart for all these years.

By restoring her lover's memories, the princess had gone against the law of Heaven. This resulted her being severely punished by the Heavens. Her soul dissipated into the air while hearing her lover's helpless and sorrowful voice screaming for her name and begging her not to leave him again.

【Background story that this MV was inspired from】

In year 2012 A.C., archeologists discovered a tomb in Shanxi province, Xi’an city. According to the epitaph, it could be determined that this was supposed to be a paired burial of a military general and a lady of royal descent. The main burial chamber held the coffin meant for a joint burial, however only the remains of a male was found within.

Surprisingly, the lady recorded on the epitaph shared the same title as a princess who served as a peace-marriage bride around the same era, based on historical records. The details are yet to be fully understood. (Source: Speck_尘埃 / http://classcalstylechinesesongtransl...)
