Amma’s Pride is a 21-minute documentary short film. It tells the powerful and heartening story of Valli, a mother in Tamil Nadu, whose unconditional love for her trans daughter, Srija, becomes a beacon of hope and affirmation. The film’s impact has been recognized by leading LGBTQIA institutions in India, such as Keshav Suri Foundation, Sweekar: The Rainbow Parents, Sappho for Equality, and Varta Trust, and media platforms, including the BBC [https://vimeo.com/1104976218/1fb6d4723c], which featured the story of the film and its protagonist in 40 languages, reaching millions of readers.
Endorsed by the Indian government and showcased at foreign embassies, Amma’s Pride has also proven to be an effective tool for cultural diplomacy. Crafted over four years, Amma’s Pride offers a contemporary, intimate look at queer familial and romantic love, showcasing what is possible when individuals are supported by those who matter most. Its universal themes of compassion, resilience, and acceptance resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.
