Truth behind Dalit man’s murder ‘over moustache’ and a village bitterly divided in Rajasthan

#JitendraMeghwal was stabbed on March 15 in #Rajasthan’s #Pali district, allegedly for aspiring to a lifestyle like the upper castes’. While police denies this angle to the 28-year-old’s murder, his family says casteist slurs always came with a question – “why do you have a moustache?”

The local #BJP MLA raised the issue in the assembly and is now facing the ire of the upper castes, who – in a bid to build pressure – are saying the legislator will not get a party ticket the next time. Rajpurohits have also held a rally condemning the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
