The stars of Marvel Studio’s hotly anticipated superhero blockbuster, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, describe their characters as superheroes with humanity.

In this episode of ReelTalk, Ben interviews Joseph Quinn (Gladiator II) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear), who make up half of the Fantastic Four cast.

Quinn, who lights up the screen as Johnny Storm, AKA the Human Torch, says he approached the role with care and drew inspiration from the dysfunction of normal families.
Ebon, who in the movie is unrecognisable as Ben Grimm, known as The Thing, said playing a man forced to live in a rock-like body allowed him to tap into his character’s unrealised dreams and human longing.

Making up the second half of the quartet, are co-stars Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) as Sue Storm, AKA the Invisible Woman, and the internet’s boyfriend, Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards, AKA Mr Fantastic.

The Fantastic Four was created as a comic book in 1961.

Marvel’s First Family made the leap to the big screen in 2005 and again in 2007, featuring Ioan Gruffudd in Pascal’s role of Reed Richards, with Chris Evans as the Human Torch and the late Julian McMahon as the villainous Viktor Von Doom.

A reboot in 2015 with an entirely new cast saw Miles Teller play Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B Jordan as Johnny Storm and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm.

Released via Disney, the new Fantastic Four is set to become a cornerstone of the MCU’s Phase Six slate, to line up with the Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is rated PG and will be released in Australian cinemas on July 24.
