We all know that the Vice President’s office became vacant when Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post on July 21.
Although his term was originally set to continue until August 10, 2027.
In that NDA alliance choosed C.P. Radhakrishnan, as their candidate.
Who is he ? Why is he chosen ? Let me explain.
A meeting of NDA leaders was held recently in Delhi to select their Vice Presidential candidate.
The meeting was led by BJP chief J.P. Nadda, which was attended by Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and other senior leaders.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, J.P. Nadda announced that C.P. Radhakrishnan would be the NDA’s candidate for the Vice President election.
Radhakrishnan age 67, who is currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra.
He is a native from Tamil Nadu.
He was born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur.
He joined the RSS at the age of 16 and gradually rose through its ranks.
In 1996, he was appointed as the General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu BJP.
He was elected as Member of Parliament from Coimbatore in both the 1998 and 1999 Lok Sabha elections.
In February 2023, he was appointed Governor of Jharkhand, and then he has been serving as the Governor of Maharashtra.
Now selected as VP candidate.
The last day for filling the nomination process for the Vice Presidential election is August 21.
It is reported that C.P. Radhakrishnan will file his nomination on August 21.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is currently holding consultations with leaders of allied parties to finalise their nominee.
For this VP election 782 MPs are eligible to vote.
To win, a candidate needs the support of at least 391 MPs, that is, more than 50% of the total.
In the current Parliament, the NDA, led by the BJP, has 422 MPs, while the INDIA alliance has 312.
With the NDA enjoying a clear majority, it is almost certain that C.P. Radhakrishnan will win the Vice Presidential election.
