Maharashtra Forest Department's Junnar Forest Division along with Wildlife SOS swiftly rescued a male leopard involved in a road accident on the Pune-Nashik highway. The injured leopard is currently under the care of Wildlife SOS at the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre (MLRC).
Late at night, the rescue team reached Kalamb in the Manchar forest range, where the injured leopard was discovered. However, the rescue operation faced challenges as a large crowd had gathered, obstructing the road and causing agitation for the injured leopard. The team efficiently tranquilised the big cat using a dart gun, and the leopard, estimated to be 5 years old, was safely transported for immediate medical attention.
At the MLRC, the leopard underwent a thorough examination, revealing severe head trauma, a broken mandible, and fractures in both canines and incisors. Currently receiving supportive therapy, oral medications, and antibiotics, the leopard is showing positive signs, including a healthy appetite, despite being in a state of lateral recumbency.
