In 1903, the Romanovs held a costume ball to celebrate 290 years of their family’s rule. Taking place over 3 days in the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, it was described as the last great royal ball of the century.

It was the last time the extended Romanov family would be together. Fourteen years later, the Russian Revolution would end their way of life as they knew it.
