Decades of appeals and advanced DNA testing in 2022 excluded him from key evidence, but a retrial was denied in 2025. He remains imprisoned.

2. Christian Nielsen – In 2006, he murdered four people (a handyman, a B&B owner, her daughter, and a friend) in a calculated spree in Norwich. He calmly confessed to his father. After pleading guilty, he received four life sentences in 2007.

3. John Williams – Shot and killed Somerset County Corporal Eugene Cole during an arrest attempt in 2018. He stole Cole's cruiser, committed a robbery, and led a four-day manhunt before capture. Convicted of murder in 2019, he is serving life without parole.

4. Robert Burton – After his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Ginn broke up with him in 2015, he broke into her home, where she shot him first, but he overpowered and killed her. He then evaded capture in a 68-day manhunt, one of Maine's longest. Convicted of murder and sentenced to 55 years.

5. Thayne Ormsby – In 2010, he murdered three people in Amity (Jeffrey Ryan, Ryan's 10-year-old son Jesse, and family friend Jason Dehahn) based on a fabricated drug-dealer claim. He confessed, was found sane, and received three life sentences plus 15 years for arson.

6. Matthew Cushing – In 2008, he meticulously planned and murdered his mother, stepfather, and half-brother in Old Orchard Beach, fearing his family's breakup. He set the house on fire. He pleaded guilty and received three consecutive life sentences plus 20 years for arson.

7. Mark Penley – In a 2019 New Year's Day act of jealous obsession, he murdered his ex-girlfriend Heather Bickford and her new boyfriend Dana Hill in front of her children. Convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

8. Jalik Keene – In 2018, he murdered high school acquaintance Michaela Conley after she gave him a ride from the airport. Security footage showed him carrying and dragging her body. DNA evidence and his testimony secured a conviction and a 58-year sentence.

9. Mark Cardilli Jr. – An Army veteran, he shot and killed his sister's boyfriend, Isahak Muse, during a 2019 altercation in their family home. Claiming self-defense, he was convicted of manslaughter. His conviction was reinstated on appeal in 2024 after a brief vacatur.

10. Gerald Goodale – Connected to two cold-case murders from the late 1980s. Convicted in 1989 for one murder (Geraldine Finn), he was finally charged and pleaded guilty in 2023 for the 1987 murder of Janet Brochu after new evidence emerged. His sentences total over 75 years.
