Technology development has fundamentally disrupted the retail industry by changing the way consumers behave, the way they communicate, the way they search, where and when they buy, how they pay for it, and at the end, how they perceive retail brands. Several companies had a particularly mportant role in this reshuffling of the retail industry: These companies, called the Tech Titans, are Amazon, Ebay, Apple, Google and Facebook. Each of them has a strong grip over particular tools that influence and drive billions of dollars in marketing and sales, strongly focusing on further innovations to leave their mark in the retail industry.
Some of the biggest challenges that retailers face in this changed environment is to understand what technology solutions to use in order to implement omnichannel retailing strategies, how to attract and keep the “new consumers”, how to analyze customer data and predict customer behavior, manage stock and inventory, and monitor competition. Tech titans in particular, but also other solution providers, should be an essential part of each retailer’s omni-channel strategy. Retailers must be innovative and think out of the box.
