The one key to being able to do activities just like this and others like walking, running, hiking, playing sports, etc is STRENGTH.

As a physical therapist and osteoarthritis specialist, I find that the reverse lunge is one of the best for strengthening for these activities. The problem is, reverse lunges can lead to knee pain in some due to lack of mobility, decreased balance, lack of strength and/or form breakdown.

In this video, I've included a breakdown of the reverse lunge and two other modifications that help to work up to this exercise to give you a good place to get started, especially if lunges typically cause pain or difficulty. These exercises are a must when it comes to stair climbing exercise and getting up to the floor and back down. You can't afford to skip it.
