A few Herring Gulls nested on Lima Pier this year, a decommissioned pier on Governors Island and formerly the site of the Common Tern nesting colony. The Common Terns abandoned their nests this year either due to predation, lack of fish or disturbances related to the current ongoing construction at the south end of the island.

They return to the same territories each breeding season and share the work through a month of incubation and three months of chick-raising.
