Flash floods and landslides in Sibolga, North Sumatra, have drastically altered the Aek Godang River, causing the water level to recede and the riverbed to fill with sand, rocks, and logs. Residents describe how heavy rainfall triggered landslide material to flow downstream, turning parts of the river into walkable land. The disaster flooded highways and residential areas, forcing around 700 people to evacuate to a local church hall. As conditions improve, residents are returning home and beginning cleanup efforts, hoping the river flow can be restored to prevent future disasters.
