Israeli Army Announces Failure to Intercept Missile Fired from Yemen











On Saturday, December 21, 2024, the Israeli army announced its failure to intercept a ballistic missile launched from Yemen, which landed in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area. The attack resulted in 14 people sustaining minor injuries, some of whom were treated for shrapnel wounds and subsequently transported to the hospital.

The Israeli army spokesperson stated, “Following the alerts recently activated in the central region of the country, a single missile launched from Yemen was detected. Attempts to intercept the missile were unsuccessful, and it was confirmed to have landed in the area.”

The Yemeni Houthi group, allied with Iran, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it had targeted a “military objective” in the Jaffa area. Recently, the Houthis have intensified their missile and drone strikes toward Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

Media reports have suggested that the failure to intercept the missile might be attributed to gaps in Israel’s air defense systems or advancements in Iranian missile technology possessed by the Houthis. Questions have been raised about the current defense systems’ ability to counter such threats, particularly given the use of advanced technologies such as maneuvering warheads.

This attack comes just two days after Israel carried out airstrikes targeting ports and energy facilities in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, while issuing warnings of further strikes against the group.
