Minato Sahashi, a struggling yet brilliant 19-year-old youth, has failed the college entrance exam for the second time, which has left him considered worthless by those around him. However, his seemingly bleak future dramatically turns when a beautiful and supernatural woman falls from the sky and into his life. The woman, Musubi, is a unique creature known as a "Sekirei," a humanoid extraterrestrial with extraordinary abilities. These aliens are known to kiss humans who carry the Ashikabi gene to awaken the additional latent power that lies within them.

Realizing the potential in the seemingly insignificant young man, Musubi kisses the bewildered Minato, initiating a bond between the two of them. This draws him into the high-stakes world of Sekirei, where he and his new companion must compete against others in a battle for survival called the "Sekirei Plan." However, unbeknownst to the contestants, there is more at stake than what the competition was originally intended for.
