An unfortunate event where a historic building situated in Central Manchester on Gloucester Street was violently destroyed by a scorching blaze captured in 4K from a safe distance. Unfortunately there is no audio on this video due to current filming constraints. The smoke was visible for miles and many people I spoke to had the belief it was deliberately set alight as a part of an insurance scam. Many people I had the chance to speak to believed the building was a listed historic building however in early January this year the government decided that the building did not meet the specification to be listed and planning permission was approved to redevelop the building into a 37 storey student accommodation building in which the developers planned to keep the historical aspects of the building which unfortunately is no longer going to be possible. The event caused the closure of the entire Castlefield rail corridor leading to many delays and the closure of Whitworth Street West and many other surrounding roads having an enormous impact on transport in the area. The building was also reported to contain asbestos meaning the smoke was toxic and has been known to cause cancerous effects.
