The Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 is a great alternative as your first Leica system M Lens.

It is my got focal length for lazy photo walk. One lens and forget it. It sits in between the 35 and 50mm giving you the best of both worlds.

As far as I know there is no such focal lens in the Leica M mount system.
Not only the Voigtlander is a great Leica alternative it is also a fast, light and well built lens. The focus throw is super smooth, the aperture ring very clicky and the lens construction outstanding.

When I first got my copy of this lens I paid $399. Right now this lens goes for about $550 and it still a great price for such a capable lens.
