The Siege of Dunboy Castle

Описание к видео The Siege of Dunboy Castle

In 1602 Dunboy castle, in the Beara peninsula, was the site of a brutal siege. The castle was the seat of Domhnall Cam O'Sullivan Beare, though he was not present during the siege. Its 140 defenders were faced by a much larger force under George Carew, Lord President of Munster. Although the garrison fought valiantly the castle was taken quickly. The surviving members of the garrison were shown no mercy. All were hung. Also linked to the siege was another massacre, this time on Dursey Island.
