India-China Standoff In a violent clash between India-China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Galwan valley, 20 Indian soldiers were martyred. However, this is not the first time that the India-China border dispute happened, but in 1993, both the countries signed an agreement to maintain peace and tranquillity on the border.
India and China have a long history of border disputes. For four weeks, India and China have been involved in a stand-off along part of their 3,500km (2,174-mile) shared border. The two nations fought a war over the border in 1962 and disputes remain unresolved in several areas, causing tensions to rise from time to time.
The stand-off in Eastern Ladakh is in at least five key areas where India and China have had traditional differences on the perception of the Line of Actual Control or LAC in the region.
