The Townsend Thoreson Superteams Championship was a huge TV show in the 80s regularly attracting 20m + viewers on BBC1. Hosted by Ron Pickering & David Vine, the show pitched teams of sports stars from all kinds of disciplines against each other like rugby and football stars against cyclists and athletes. Andy Ruffell was the youngest ever participant at 17 and also one of the few invited to take part twice in 1983 and 1984. Some of the star names included Sterling Moss, Andy Irvin, Marcus Rose, Steve Smith Derek Bell, Peter Collins, Roger Marshall, Dave Jessop, Martin Hines, Mick Bennett & Sid Barass
