The External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, has announced that the next step after disengagement is the pullback of troops. This follows the disengagement agreements negotiated on October 21st. The de-escalation process will involve moving back heavy machinery and firepower from frontline areas to create a margin of safety. This step aims to diffuse tensions between India and China, which have been high since the summer of 2020.
