Mt. Omuro: One of the Most Beautiful Places in Japan:
Ōomuro is a 580 meter high cinder cone volcano in the Izu-Tobu volcano field of Itō, Shizuoka, Japan.
At the independent peak, the yearly mountain burning that been performed for more than 700 years is carried out in the early spring, so it is often covered with annual plants and is a symbol of Itō. The mountain is designated as a national natural monument and part of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
Mount Omuro is an extinct volcano near the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula, south of central Ito City. It is shaped like an inverted rice bowl and has a beautiful silhouette that can be seen from most places in the Izu Kogen area.

Mount Ōomuro is about 580 meters high and has a crater with a diameter of about 300 meters which takes about 15 to 30 minutes to circle on foot. Visitors must take a chair lift up the mountain in order to walk around the crater. The top of the mountain offers 360 degree panoramic views that include Mount Fuji and Oshima Island when visibility is good. More ambitious visitors can try their hand at archery in the bottom of the crater or paragilding down the side of the mountain. The Izu Shaboten Zoo near the base of Mount Omuro is often combined with a visit to Mount Omuro.

It is a volcanic mountain that was formed about 5,000 years ago. People in Izu have revered it as a holy mountain. They believe that the mountain brings safety for their ships and a good haul of fish. The center of the mountain has a large crater. There is a hiking trail around it where visitors can enjoy a thrilling hike.If you'd like to do more than just walk and gaze at the amazing views, you can take the stairs down into Omuro's volcanic crater and hone your archery skills.
It may be hard to believe, but the mouth of a volcanic that once produced fire, lava, brimstone and ash is now an archery range.It costs just 1,500 yen an hour (for adults junior high school age and older), including the rental of the bow, arrows and glove, plus coaching from the range staff.
