Anybody who lives in Scotland will know that it is full of hidden gems. While cities like Edinburgh and towns such as St Andrews are often named on lists of the country's top destinations, there are countless lesser-known settlements worth visiting.

Each and every city, town, and village in Scotland has something to offer. However, many have also been criticised by locals or visitors for one reason or another.

As recently reported by the Daily Record, one Scottish village was described as the "bottom of the world" in an online review. Elsewhere, another settlement in the country was named as one of the most "depressing" spots in the country.
