Che Guevara survived revolution, exile, and years of guerrilla warfare — but his final moments came in Bolivia.

In 1967, Che Guevara was captured by the Bolivian army while leading a failed insurgency in the country’s rural regions. Wounded and exhausted, he was taken to a small schoolhouse in the village of La Higuera, where he was held overnight.

The following day, Bolivian authorities decided to execute him without trial. According to multiple historical accounts, before the execution took place, Che spoke directly to his captor. His reported final words were calm and defiant:

“Shoot. Do it. You are only going to kill a man.”

Moments later, Che Guevara was executed. He was 39 years old.

While the man died that day, his image, words, and ideology spread far beyond Bolivia. Che Guevara became one of the most recognizable political symbols of the 20th century — appearing on posters, flags, clothing, and protest movements across the world.

Whether viewed as a revolutionary hero or a controversial militant figure, his final moments remain one of the most discussed and debated episodes in modern history.
