Spade Cooley was a very popular western swing musician and movie and TV star in the 1940s and 1950s. His popularity waned and he was making plans to start a Water Wonderland amusement park in Kern County in the early 1960s when his personal demons caught up to him. In April 1961 he attacked his wife in a drunken rage and she died. His trial for murder was a national media focus. When he was finally released from prison in 1969 he performed a benefit concert in Oakland, Calif., where he dropped dead suddenly from a heart attack.

Jeff will visit is crypt at the Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward and explain his rise and fall.
