Hoy les traigo a la rapaz más pequeña del Neotrópico, desde la bellísima playa de Cuyagua en la costa del caribe Venezolano! El Pearl Kite es una diminuta pero poderosa rapaz cuya dieta principal consiste en lagartos y lagartijas, aunque puede comer insectos y aves también! En este caso, la presa seguramente pertenece al género Cnemidophorus, muy comunes en las zonas calientes de Venezuela. En este caso, el ave pertenece a la subespecie leonae.

Today I bring you the smallest raptor in the Neotropics, from the beautiful beach of Cuyagua on the Caribbean coast of Venezuela! The Pearl Kite is a tiny but powerful bird of prey whose main diet consists of lizards, though it can also eat insects and birds! In this case, the prey most likely belongs to the genus Cnemidophorus, which are very common in the hot regions of Venezuela. Specifically, this bird belongs to the subspecies leonae.
