Abstract:
What if we had a library that could encapsulate ATA, SCSI & NVMe command set, encapsulate the OS level nuances of Windows, Linux, FreeBSD & Solaris and can compile not only on x86 but on ARM, MIPS & PowerPC etc. as well? Well there is one and best thing of all, it’s open source.

openSeaChest is a collection of utilities that gives storage developers, field & application engineers, tinkerers…anyone who works with directly attached storage, tools to get their job done. Despite the provocative title, these tools are meant to complement the other open source tools, not to compete with them.

The openSeaChest utilities are compiled on top of libraries that can be used create Diagnostic & Management based applications in C++, C# & Java or scripts using python or go based on your own use case.

Learning Objectives:
1. The genesis & evolved architecture of opensea-* libraries
2. What these libraries support (SATA/SAS/NVMe) and what they do not
3. What utilities are part of openSeaChest & what use cases they cover for Storage Developers
