Why are ancestry DNA tests wrong?

Описание к видео Why are ancestry DNA tests wrong?

Spoiler alert: They’re probably not. It’s more likely they’re misunderstood.

Many people make the mistake of thinking they have an ancestor with “100%” of ancestry from a particular country. The reality is that no human has had “100%” ancestry from anywhere for at least 50,000 years. Everyone has ancestors who came from somewhere else.

Many people make the mistake of assuming that today’s country borders are the same as they were 200 years (or longer) ago. The reality is DNA doesn’t care about country borders at any given point in history.

Many people also make the mistake of assuming their last name is relevant to their genetics. The reality is that someone with an Italian last name could potentially be 14% “Italian” if they had children with non-Italians for just a couple generations in a row.

These conceptions and others are tackled in this video.
