Licensed games get a bit of a bad rep, which is a bit of a shame because some of them are actually pretty damn good! This one in particular is not simply "good" though, it's something else, something truly special, dare I say, the best fighting game in the entire 4th generation? Perhaps even my favourite fighting game of all time? Yeah I would go that far, because this game deserves it! It's not only still to this day a very solid fighter that's surprisingly easy to pick up and play but hard to master, it's also one of the most visually-stunning games on the Super Nintendo, one that truly manages to bring arcade-quality fighting to the system!
And that's because I haven't even mentioned the soundtrack, it's spectacular! One of the best on a system that's chock-full of mind-blowing soundtracks! It's a must-listen! I've only took so long to cover it on the PC engine because I wasn't talented enough to do it justice, and I still don't think I am, but I think I've managed to get something close enough to be listenable...
Can you tell I LOVE this game with a passion? Because I do! These gorgeous 16 bit graphics with huge and beautifully-animated sprites, and breath-taking backgrounds with just the right colours, and of course, a very welcome parallax scrolling, makes my eyes melt~
And when combined with such a hype soundtrack with such perfectly 90s sampled instrumentation that makes my ears melt and buttery-smooth, highly-responsive controls that makes my hands melt~
I'm telling you, this game is incredible!
Sorry, I didn't want to hype it up too much, but I can't help it, I don't really get the opportunity to talk about this game very often, and that's sad because I REALLY LOVE it! It really nails that late 16 bit aesthetic when games started to look gorgeous and sound really great, you know, like The Ninja Warriors Again, Wild Guns, Final Fight 3 and stuff like that~
My only complaint about it is that it's a little too flashy, as in, seizure-inducing to people who are sensitive to flashing lights, thankfully I'm not so I can enjoy it in its full glory! And well, it never really hurts my eyes...
Oh and, before you ask, no, I haven't watched Gundam Wing, only the original Gundam, Zeta Gundam and a couple of OVAs... But based on the game alone, I'll tell you this much: Death Scythe is my main, and Duo is Best Boy!
Oh well, I usually use the description to talk about something regarding how I made the song, but well, there's nothing really special going on this time around, there's nothing I'm doing in here that I haven't done before... I still hope you enjoy it though ^^
