Mount Fuji and the Fuji Five Lakes are part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park located southwest of Tokyo. Fly into Tokyo Haneda international Airport which is 166 km or around 3 hr drive to Mount Fuji. From Tokyo city, there are regular trains, buses or tour to the mountain. The easiest route is probably by taking JR express trains from Tokyo’s Shinjuku station. It is also some 30 miles (48 km) from Miyanoshita in Hakone.
You can just visit or hike up the mountain. For visiting, various trains are available to the summit station. For climbing, there are 4 hiking trails leading up to the last station, Mount Fuji station. From there, the last hiking trail is Ohachimeguri Trail, 20-30 mins hike away to the highest peak Kengamine at altitude of 3776m. Take note that official climbing season is from 1 July to 31 August, though the ideal time is from mid-July to 20 August. Most climbers will stay the evening in one of the huts and then made the summit by sunrise.

Gotemba Trail (Hardest Trail), from Shizuoka Prefecture, Gotemba 5th Station
Starts from altitude of 1,450 meters, takes around 7-10 hours to ascend and 3-6 hours to descend
