Several freeway rest stops are becoming attractive destinations in their own right. Outside of Tainan, Dongshan Rest Stop offers visitors the chance to marvel at an aquarium tunnel stocked with freshwater fish from local reservoirs. Entering this aquarium tunnel is like going underwater. The tunnel is different than the one operated by the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium in that it features freshwater fish. This is not a public aquarium. The tunnel is located at the Dongshan Rest Stop near Tainan on National Freeway No. 3. It is also near the Siraya National Scenic Area, which has a number of reservoirs nearby. The group operating this rest stop previously worked with the Taitung aquarium, and it decided to put this experience to good use by constructing another aquarium tunnel for the rest stop.Rest Stop WorkerIn the future, we hope to offer both seawater and freshwater environments in this aquarium tunnel.The rest stop also offers Tainan delicacies. Motorists can stop for a bite and marvel at these amazing sights before getting back on the road and continuing to their destination.
