The Wood Innovation and Design Centre in Prince George, B.C. is one of the tallest wood structures in North America at six storeys.

Construction of the structure was recently completed and J.Eric Karsh, principal with Equilibrium Consulting Inc., spoke to the Journal of Commerce at the 2014 Wood Solutions Fair about the process of building the Centre.

Karsh said there are only six steel beams in the entire building, and the rest of the structure is made of wood, whether glulam, cross-laminated timber or other material.
Karsh added that the exterior of the building was charred, which not only adds an aesthetic quality but repels insects and prevents fungus and other organic deterioration.
