The fight is really easy. The main objective is to hit the glowing roots inside of the big orange globes on each side of the boss. After killing the first root he will grow a big scythe on his back, also the floor will start falling in places. The same thing happens when you go and kill the second root. Doing this is not really hard and each one you kill stays dead even if you lose the boss fight and start over.

After defeating both roots you need to work your way to the center in front of the boss which the floor falls out at. Then you need to get on the root and go under him and stab him in the little heart.

Overall it is very easy, and allows you to continue to beat him by keeping the roots dead that you kill. Just make sure you have a good shield to block some of the swings.
