Today’s House Homeland Security hearing turned into a showdown. Rep. Seth Magaziner confronted DHS Secretary Kristi Noem with the case of Sae Joon Park a U.S. Army veteran and green-card holder who self-deported to South Korea after receiving a removal order as Democrats pressed Noem over deportations of veterans and long-time residents. Noem defended DHS, saying the department is enforcing statutes as written and urged lawmakers to “change the law” if they oppose the outcomes. The panel’s ranking member demanded her resignation and moved to subpoena her; Republicans tabled the motion. Noem also left the hearing early, drawing additional criticism.
