As somebody familiar with software development, this looks to me as if the engineering team does not drive a Ford. Either there is a lack of understanding of how frustrating having to set the car to Eco Mode every time you start the engine. The other scenario is that a global requirement needs to exist before drive mode can be activated! With that said, know that this is not an invention but instead falling back on experiences Hot Rodding the SHO and Focus MK4.

As I mentioned in the video, I spilled coffee all over my center console on a recent trip. That prompted me to remove the center console as soon as I returned to ensure all the switches were clean. While removing the drive mode switch, the plug looked quite familiar. I immediately, when looking for a module I had cloned a few years back, sold formod.eu. This small module for the Ford Focus MK4: Sets both the Auto DRIVE MODE + disables Auto StartStop. I don't care about Auto StartStop since I am seeking maximum fuel economy performance. Because of this, having my Ford Maverick default to Eco Mode is essential.

𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞
Although the drive mode switch may look quite sophisticated, it is nothing but a momentary push button sending a ground pulse to the ECU. To set the drive mode on the Ford Maverick XL EcoBoost to Eco Mode, you need to press the drive mode switch four times after the vehicle has started. Although this mod is intended to set the ECO MODE as the default, it can be easily modified to any other Drive Mode by programming the desired number of pulses.

These pulses must be at least 1-second long and about 3-4 seconds apart! There is more! The 2022 Ford Maverick, like many new vehicles, has a very long DEAF ZONE. A deaf zone is the time it takes for the ECU in a car to start accepting or listening to commands after the engine has started. If you get in the vehicle, turn the engine on, and start pushing buttons, nothing happens until the deaf period has expired.

Even though my first reaction was to build a circuit using LM-555 timers, I felt that would alienate many people not familiar with circuit design and making PC boards. So I opted for readily available programmable timers. And YES, a small PC module like a Raspberry Pi or any of the RISC-V variants in the market today will work with no clicking sound. But this will further shrink the pool of individuals who can replicate this MOD.

With that said, if you have the technical skill to design your own timers, all you need is to execute (x) number of pulses 1-second long and about 3-4 seconds apart, about 10-12 seconds after the vehicle has started. I chose to clone the switch's function by shorting its ground source instead of giving it ground because I found a high resistance between the ground lead at the plug and the chassis ground.
