Licorice is one of the most utilized traditional Chinese herbs. Its roots and rhizomes are used in medicine. It gets its name from its sweet flavor. Among the 113 prescriptions recorded in Zhang Zhongjing's "Treatise on Cold Damage", 70 include licorice.
