According to the Hindu calendar, Devuthani Ekadashi falls on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. This year, this Devuthani Ekadashi will be celebrated on Sunday, November 14. According to religious beliefs, on this day Lord Shri Hari Vishnu wakes up from sleep of four months and when Lord Vishnu wakes up from sleep, it is called Debprabodhini, Devotthan Ekadashi or Devuthani Ekadashi. Significance of Devuthani Ekadashi
It is said that the deities also sleep and wake up at a certain time and according to mythological belief, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu also sleeps in Kshirsagar to sleep on the bed of Sheshnag for four months of the year and then he gets up on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, That is why it is called Devuthani Ekadashi. After Lord Vishnu wakes up, other deities also give up sleep. According to religious beliefs, observing Ekadashi fast gives special grace to Lord Vishnu and attains salvation after death. Along with Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi is also worshiped on this day. By doing this, happiness comes in the life of a person and all his sorrows go away.
Auspicious time of Devuthani Ekadashi
Kartik, Shukla Ekadashi will start at 05:48 in the morning of Sunday, November 14, 2021 and will end at 06:39 in the morning of Monday, November 15, 2021. The auspicious time to break the fast on this day will be from 01:10 in the afternoon to 03:19 in the afternoon.
Method of worshiping on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi
1. On the day of Devuthani Ekadashi, one should wake up early in the morning and wear yellow colored clothes after taking bath etc.
2. The temple of the house should be cleaned with Gangajal and then the idol of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu should also be anointed with Ganga water.
3. On this Ekadashi Lord Vishnu should be offered incense, lamp, naivedya, flowers, scent, sandalwood, fruits and Arghya etc. and incense-lamp should be lit in front of him. Keep in mind that along with all this, do not forget to offer Tulsi to Lord Shri Hari Vishnu on this day.
4. Along with worshiping Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, bell, conch shell as well as "Uttishthottishtha Govinda Tyaj Nidram Jagatpatte. Tvayi Supte Jagannath Jagat Suptam Bhavedidam". Or “Uttishthottishtha Varaha Danshtroddritvasundhere. Hiranyakshapranaghatin trailokye mangalam kuru”. Mantras should be chanted.
5. After this, perform the aarti of the Lord and offering flowers, “Iyan Tu Dwadashi Dev Prabodhay Vinimitha. Tvayev sarvalokanam hitartha seshshayina”. Or “Idam vratam maya deva kritam pretyai tav prabho. neum samrutamantaam yatu tattvaprasadajjanaardan”. One should pray to Lord Shri Hari Vishnu through mantras for a happy life.
6. After this, remembering the devotees like Parashurama, Pundarika, Vyasa, Ambareesh, Shuka, Shaunak, Prahlad, Naradji and Bhishma etc., Charanamrit and Prasad should be taken.
7. Along with this, Tulsi marriage is also a law on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi. On this day, Shaligram avatar of Lord Vishnu and Mata Tulsi are married according to the rituals.
