Jhody Polk, JLI Founder and Visionary, and Tyler Walton, JLI Managing Attorney, traveled to Vienna, Austria to represent JLI at the 32nd session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the primary policymaking body of United Nations on topics related to criminal justice. Jhody and Tyler, alongside former Bernstein Institute Visiting Scholar and current UNODC Researcher - Tejal Jesrani Haslinger, introduced legal empowerment, participatory research methods and Jailhouse Lawyering in the United States to leaders from across the globe. They highlighted the unique role of jailhouse lawyers in closing the US Justice Gap, spoke of the legal expertise held by jailhouse lawyers, and centered the experience of directly impacted people through presentations such as this one: "The Role of Incarcerated People in Implementing the Kyoto Declaration."
