A couple of solutions I've found to improve my projector image and keep my av cabinet cool. I've installed black carpet around the screen to reduce light reflection. I also bought black curtains for the windows. One of the curtains was used as a "room divider" to help block light from the other side of the room.

For cabinet cooling, I designed an open system with perforated shelves. They are not really floating shelves, they are more like hanging shelves.

I've also installed some fans to help keep the system cool. Because it's an open system, the fans are not really needed unless I have the system on all day in a hot day. If you have a "closed" cabinet, you will probably benefit even more from a fan system like this.
