McKinley STEM Academy’s One Book, One School initiative brought the inspiring story of Hidden Figures to life—celebrating perseverance, brilliance, and the power of inclusion in STEM.

Throughout the month, students and staff explored the extraordinary contributions of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson—three African American women whose groundbreaking work at NASA changed history. Through reading, discussion, and hands-on STEM challenges, learners connected literacy and science while discovering how courage, curiosity, and collaboration can break barriers and shape the future.
Classroom activities integrated math, engineering, and problem-solving, allowing students to see themselves as innovators—just like the Hidden Figures who paved the way.
