This feature documentary chronicles the first 28 years of New London’s eminent indie rock band, THE REDUCERS, from their beginnings at local music venues, BaBa O’Riley’s, Bay Café and the El 'n’ Gee to their national road tours, major venue performances at The Ritz, Irving Plaza and CBGBs and their triumphant tour of Japan in 2003.In 1985 The Reducers were voted best unsigned band in the U.S. by CMJ New Music Report and the following year was featured on Epic Records’, “Epic Presents the Unsigned” a compilation album of ten of “America’s Best Unsigned Acts.” Rather than pursue the coveted major label deal the four band members, Hugh Birdsall, Peter Detmold, Steve Kaika and Tom Trombley stayed true to their musical ideals and friendship releasing all their records through their own Rave On Records label.Their 1985 release, Let’s Go, reached #2 on the CMJ Alternative Chart and the band has received rave reviews in such acclaimed periodicals as The New York Times, Village Voice, Boston Globe, The Phoenix, The San Francisco Bay Guardian and Goldmine.

“THE REDUCERS: AMERICA’S BEST UNSIGNED BAND” is produced and directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker, Bill Dumas who resides in Eastern Connecticut and Los Angeles. Bill’s previous documentary film narrated by Ed Asner, “Missing, Presumed Dead: The Search for America’s POWs” has won two festival, “Best Documentary” awards and screened in the U.S. Congress where a DVD of the film was distributed to every member of the U.S. Senate and Congress by Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. His feature documentary about homeless veterans in Los Angeles, "Duty, Honor, Country: Betrayal" unravels the corruption that beset the West Los Angeles VA and subsequent lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union.
