Tropical Storm Melissa has begun to strengthen and should become a hurricane soon. It is forecast to intensify into a Category 4 or 5 hurricane before moving over Jamaica. Between Wednesday and Thursday, it is expected to pass over eastern Cuba and the southern Bahamas.

The outer bands of the system continue to bring heavy showers over the Dominican Republic and Haiti, where flooding will persist through the rest of the weekend.
