Did you know that the majority of patients use their CPAP with dirty water?

I don't mean using tap water which we'll get into it in a bit. What I mean is making sure your water chamber is clean. In the same way, you would not put water from a puddle in your CPAP you do not want to let the water stand. When you let the water sit in your chamber for long periods of time the water can build bacteria and mold which can make you feel sick. This bacteria can build up and contaminate not just your disposable supplies, It can contaminate your CPAP machine as well. This brings the importance of keeping your CPAP equipment clean, to keep your CPAP equipment clean you should be washing all of your supplies on a daily basis. You should use warm soapy water to make sure your clean out all of the mold and bacteria build up, but even before cleaning your equipment, you should be using clean water. Regular tap water should not be used, at a bare minimum, you should use filtered water.

It is recommended to use distilled water in your humidifier chamber, distilled water does not have any minerals in it like calcium and magnesium which can build up and cause bacteria to grow faster. To make sure you do not catch an infection from your CPAP machine you should make sure to use the cleanest water possible.
