Today, we're launching a series on 5 foundational rhythmic patterns played on the tamborim in the tradition of Rio's samba school baterias. We start with historically the first one: the pattern referred to in Rio as "teleco-teco," otherwise known as the "samba time-line." Originating in the Congo/Angola region of Africa, teleco-teco serves as a guide rhythm in the ensemble that all the other rhythms have to sync up to.
