We had the chance to stop by and visit with Kaylee Richardson of The Honeystead and before we had the chance to enjoy the beautiful land Kaylee and her families homestead resides on we started an impromptu interview & tour while only using a cell phone and selfie stick, Bluetooth operated mind you. From goats to Mangalitsas thriving in the woods to honey bees to which I may add seeing so many honey bee hives adds a sense of tranquility to a mans soul who loves pure raw honey. Especially when drizzled on top of his morning bowl of Honey Bunches Of Oats. Kaylee spoke about her journey, one of which all of us homesteaders take, no two are alike. Kaylee likes to learn one thing at a time, a note I need to take and remind myself everyday. She has, in my opinion, mastered the Mangalitsa, a rare heritage breed pig who’s pork is known as “The Kobe Beef Of Pork”. Kaylee still has the Mangas but now has opened up a new chapter in her journey, the art of the honey bees. I use the term “mastered” loosely as none of us homesteaders truly master something, instead we keep learning what we love to do. In this interview you will see the Richardson’s harvest wood off their land, some of the most beautiful cedar you’ve ever seen, rely on the honey bees to pollinate their gardens that feed their family. Yes, everyone’s journey is different but in the end we all share the same goal when it comes to doing our part to at least fix this countries broken food system for our families.
